Konichiwa Bitches,
LOL
Nomad here. Nomadgene from AKIC. My given name is Michael Rewis. You are welcome to call me Mike or Nomad.
My ride is a 2002 Subaru WRX. Purchased new from Continental in June of 2002.
It has gone through many stages of development…but no mods were started until it was paid off.
I watched a long line of failures from the early days of modding in NASIOC and decided to not dump money into unproven mods, and to instead learn to drive the wheels off of the car. I avoided many pitfalls and problems this way. I waited until proven reliable designs came about and only then did I go for it. I lived on the Kenai peninsula back in those days and was racing motorcycles. The Car really didn't need any more power at the time for weekly commutes to Anchorage for work.
Once I moved back up to Anchorage in 2007-2008, I began the mod path going from stock to stage 2 in one fell swoop. The motor mods were pretty much COBB stage 2 Off the shelf. I won a couple rally-cross championships with the car in this configuration.
Later, several of us flew Jarrad from PDX tuning up for a custom tune session one summer. Off the shelf maps are okay, custom maps mailed to you with the build list are even better, but there is nothing like a live tune.
Afterwards, I won several more rally x and ice races with this set up. I also began working harder on handling of the car and my driving, pursuing Autocross titles. I won a class championship in street prepared against many STI and EVO's that year. I also set a fast time of the day out of all cars in a WRX in Autocross that year.
Jarrad got busy, and went to Cobb to become one of their tuners. I went to Underground Performance and worked a sponsorship deal with Nick…We tuned with Methanol and cleaned up in street mod at autocross against the class champion in a BUILT STI. I also set a fast time of the day out of all cars in a WRX that year. I won another several ice races and a championship in the AWD class.
After 132k miles, I finally developed a bit of rod knock and the original motor was slowly tearing itself apart. I had some decisions to make….rebuild, do a built motor, swap in a 2.5 liter or go a different direction….I decided to keep the car. I swapped in a 05 STI Tranny/suspension and went exotic on the motor. I picked up a Version 8 JDM motor…used the stock twin scroll VF37 turbo on the JDM engine and added in lots of custom pieces and was tuned to a very conservative 300WHP on Underground's dyno.
I am very proud of Underground Perfomance's work on my car and couldn't be more pleased with the results they've been able to achieve for me. Car is ultra-reliable, built to win championships and not have issues like the competition trying to tune... to the edge of destruction. I won the X prepared class against the previous year's class champion. I also set a fast time of the day out of all cars in a WRX this year.
This past fall, I took the car to Tanacross and beat all comers on both days competition time trials…setting fast time of the weekend. I am proud to say that won the last several championships on a very limited budget while in medical school.
I just finished Physician's Assistance school this fall and will be taking my boards in January.
My car is very well balanced. Lots of features, a nice mix of motor, handling, interior, sound system and a very clean look. I dig solid colors and simple designs.
I look forward to taking the car to the next level this winter/spring. I am very proud to be sponsored by Underground Performance. It is truly a symbiotic relationship. The Car is ultra-reliable, built to win championships and not have issues like the competition trying to tune to the edge of destruction. It is my daily driver of nearly 13 years.
